Committees

Standing Committees

  1. The Dock Committee shall promulgate rules for the use and control of the docks, slips, and moorings, including the rates or charges therefore, and which rules, following approval by the Board of Directors, shall thereby be incorporated into the within By-Laws and posted on the bulletin board for the guidance of Members.

  2. The Grounds Committee shall promulgate rules for the use of the grounds in general, which rules, following approval by the Board of Directors, shall thereby be incorporated into the within By-Laws and posted on the bulletin board for the guidance of Members.

  3. The House Committee shall promulgate rules for the use of the Clubhouse and activities therein, which rules, following approval by the Board of Directors, shall thereby be incorporated into the within By-Laws and posted on the bulletin board for the guidance of Members.

  4. The Grounds, Docks, and House Committees' Rules shall allow reasonable use at reasonable times of the Clubs facilities, except the barroom, by persons in the family of a Regular Member. Such persons are limited to the Regular Member's wife and children to the age of twenty-one (21) years. The Regular Member need not be with such persons but he is responsible for their actions and any liability therefore.

  5. The Race and Regatta Committees’ shall promulgate rules governing sailing and racing, which rules, following approval by the Board of Directors, shall thereby be incorporated into the within By-Laws and posted on the bulletin board for the guidance of Members.

  6. The Historical Committee shall be maintained by the Board of Directors whose purpose shall be to promulgate rules to collect, solicit, manage and preserve documents, information and artifacts which relate to the history and on-going activities and functions of the Erie Yacht Club and to appoint an Archivist to assist in the cataloging and Preservation of these archives. A Club Chairperson shall be appointed by the Board of Directors to perform the required functions of the Historical Committee. (Inst. 11/19/99)

  7. The Safety Committee shall promulgate rules for the safe and consistent use of the entire facility in general. These rules, following approval to the Board of Directors, shall thereby be incorporated into the BY-LAWS and posted on the bulletin board for the guidance of our members. (Inst. 11/24/98)

  8. The Long-Range Planning Committee shall be maintained in accordance with Article IX, Section 1 of the Constitution, and shall be comprised of Regular Members. The purpose of the Long-Range Planning Committee shall be to develop and evaluate long-range objectives of the Erie Yacht Club and to make recommendations regarding possible capital expenditures to the Bridge and the Board of Directors in light of the interests of the Members, the financial solvency and stability of the Erie Yacht Club, the continued liability of the Erie Yacht Club, regional developments and other relevant factors. The Long-Range Planning Committee shall hold regular meetings at least once every two months and shall annually prepare and submit reports to the Bridge and Board. (Inst. 11/16/01)

  9. The Junior Sailing Committee shall direct the operation of the Erie Yacht Club Reyburn Sailing School, which includes the Junior Sailing, Junior Racing and Adult Sailing Programs, and such other programs as may be established with the approval of the Board of Directors. The Committee shall prepare an operational budget that includes fee schedules for the various sailing programs. It shall also promulgate the rules for the School operation. The Board of Directors shall approve the budget and rules, and the approved rules shall be incorporated into the By-Laws and posted on the bulletin board for the guidance of the EYC membership. The Committee shall also have the authority to hire a Director for the School. The Committee shall consist of seven members, comprised as follows: The Board of Directors shall designate a Board member to serve on the committee to act as a liaison between the Committee and the Board. The Board shall also appoint the Committee Chairperson. The Chairperson, in turn, shall appoint the remaining five Committee members from the EYC membership; provided, however, that a minimum of three of the total Committee members must have children enrolled in one or more of the sailing programs, and family members of employees of the School shall not be eligible to serve on the Committee. All Committee members including the Chairperson shall be limited to a five-year term. A second term is allowed providing it is not consecutive. (11/19/2004).

  10. The Finance Committee shall monitor all aspects of the Erie Yacht Club finances, and provide recommendations to the Board of Directors to maintain the fiscal solvency of the Club. Its responsibilities include, but are not limited to, an annual review of the operational and capital budgets; analyzing all fees and other revenues and their relationship to market conditions and the corresponding cost centers; an annual review of dues and the corresponding Page | 22 changes in the consumer price index; reviewing processes for expenditures, including purchase orders and capital expenses; monitoring capital project expenditures; exploring improved financing; examining human resources budgeting and benefits for senior staff; and assisting management and the Board in preparation for financial reporting, annual audits and the annual meeting. The Board shall appoint the Committee Chair, who, in consultation with the Bridge, shall appoint the remaining Committee members from the EYC membership. The makeup of the Committee should include broad financial, managerial and institutional knowledge, and it is tasked with representing the interests of the entire membership. Following approval of this amendment, the chair shall be limited to a five year term, but a second term is allowed providing it is not consecutive. (Rev. 11/18/2022)

  11. The Membership Committee shall monitor all aspects of membership and the impact of membership on all members. It shall recommend rules for the size, composition and acceptance process for new members, and such rules, following approval by the Board of Directors, shall be posted on the bulletin board and published in the Constitution, By-Laws, and Rules for the guidance of Members. The Committee shall consist of six (6) members. The Board shall appoint the Committee Chair, who shall appoint the remaining Committee members from the EYC membership. The makeup of the Committee should broadly represent the interests of the entire membership. All Committee members including the Chair shall be limited to one five-year term. (Rev. 11/18/2022)
