NOTICE OF RACE

1 RULES

1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing.

1.2 Rule 81 shall not apply to this event.

2 ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY

2.1 The regatta is open to all one-design class boats.

2.2 Eligible boats may enter by completing the registration form on-line at https://www.erieyachtclub.org/erie-open-regatta and payment of the entry fee.

2.3 Entries will be accepted until the close of registration.

2.4 Classes with 5 or more boats entered will be scored in their class. Classes with fewer than 5 boats will race in a handicap class and will be scored using the Basic North American Portsmouth Number. Similar classes may start together.

3 FEES

3.1 Required fees are as follows:

Entry fee: One-sailor boats (Laser, Sunfish, etc.) $35

Two-sailor boats (Windmill, etc.) $50

Three-sailor boats (J22, etc.) $75

Registration fee includes 2 days of racing, breakfast each morning, and awards on Sunday.

There will be an optional Saturday Night Erie BBQ buffet for $25 per person.

Bag lunches can be ordered in advance. $8/lunch, Ham, Turkey, or Vegetarian choice.

4 SCHEDULE

4.1 Registration: Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 8 am to 10 am.

4.2 Dates of racing: June 4-5, 2022

4.3 5 races are scheduled.

4.4 The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race is 11 am on Saturday and 10 am on Sunday.

4.5 On Sunday no warning signal will be made after 1 pm.

5 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

The sailing instructions will be available after June 2, 2022 at the regatta website and at registration.

6 VENUE

All races will be sailed in Presque Isle Bay.

7 THE COURSES

The courses to be sailed will be triangles, windward-leewards, or a combination, depending on conditions and classes entered. The course may not be the same for all classes.

8 PENALTY SYSTEM

RRS 44.1 is changed so that the Two-Turns Penalty is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty.

9 SCORING

9.1 One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.

9.2 (a) When 3 races or fewer have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores. This changes RRS A2.

(b) When 4 or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.

10 PRIZES

Prizes will be given as follows:

Flags for 1st -3rd in each class

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 3, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
