A Proposal to Allow Joint Memberships
Encompassing over 5 years of work the Membership Committee has been promoting and advising Joint Membership at the Erie Yacht Club. The proposal almost passed last year and those who dissented stated that they didn’t fully understand. Therefore this page has been updated with much of the available research. This class would be an option available to married couples regardless of current membership class. A Joint Membership would give equal status to both married members rather than one of them being a member and the other an auxiliary member. This new class is 100% optional and is available upon request. It is important to note that nothing about all other classes changes. For those that want the traditions of EYC to continue - nothing will change. You and your spouse can continue to enjoy your membership as you have always enjoyed it. Central to the issue is how young people view the existing membership model. Therefore a live and let live proposal preserves the traditions of EYC and yet creates a more contemporary and inviting membership model which evidence shows younger families are more likely to support.
All of the supporting documents for this proposal are listed below and they are in chronological order. Please note that changes occurred during this 5 year process. The membership committee is tweaking the proposal after our recent meeting with the Past Commodores on Monday July 21st.
